Based on the ultrasonic measurement principle, this instrument is suitable for measuring the thickness of materials that allow ultrasonic waves to propagate at a constant speed and reflect from their back side. It enables precise measurements of plates and machined components, and—more importantly—can be used to monitor pipelines and pressure vessels in industrial equipment, assessing the degree of wall thinning caused by corrosion during service. The device finds applications across diverse sectors, including petroleum, chemical processing, metallurgy, shipbuilding, aerospace, and more. It is well suited for measuring the thickness of metals (such as steel, cast iron, aluminum, copper, etc.), plastics, ceramics, glass, fiberglass, and other materials that are good ultrasonic conductors. Principle of operation:
The principle of ultrasonic thickness measurement is similar to that of optical wave measurement. An ultrasonic pulse emitted by the transducer travels into the test object, and upon reaching a material interface, it is reflected back to the transducer. By precisely measuring the time it takes for the ultrasonic wave to propagate through the material, the thickness of the material being measured can be determined.
