Description

Product Introduction:

The Barcol hardness tester (Barcol indenter) is an indentation-type hardness tester. It offers rapid, simple testing—simply apply pressure—and is used to quickly measure the hardness of aluminum and aluminum alloy materials, in compliance with the U.S. standard ASTM B648, as well as ASTM HD2583-07, “Standard Test Method for Measuring Indentation Hardness of Rigid Plastics Using the Barcol Hardness Tester,” and GB/T 3854-2005, “Test Method for Barcol Hardness of Reinforced Plastics.” The Barcol hardness tester is primarily employed to assess the hardness of aluminum and aluminum alloys, but it can also be used to test other soft metals and fiberglass‑reinforced plastic products. It is suitable for measuring workpieces and assembled components that are exceptionally large, wide, or thick, including plates, strips, profiles, forgings, castings, and more.

The W‑20 Webster hardness tester, widely used in the aluminum processing industry, is suitable for most aluminum alloys. For ultra‑hard aluminum alloys such as 2024 and 7075, either the W‑B75 Webster hardness tester or a Barcol hardness tester may be employed. For pure aluminum, low‑hardness aluminum alloys, exceptionally thick aluminum alloy components, and other workpieces where the Webster tester is impractical, a Barcol hardness tester should be used.

The Barcol hardness tester is typically used as a complement to the Vickers hardness tester, particularly when testing pure aluminum, low‑hardness aluminum alloys, and extremely large or thick materials.

Product advantages:

It is equipped with a bracket-based rotary positioning device.

The machine automatically converts hardness values to HW, HV, HB, HRE, HRF, HRB, and HRH.

It features a maximum‑value hold function, recording the highest hardness value during measurement.

It features an average calculation function and can compute the average of up to 29 data sets.

Compact size and lightweight (550 g), making it easy to carry.

Good stability, easy calibration, and high measurement accuracy.

Operates with one hand, requires no prior experience, and can be used in any setting—simply reach within arm’s length to perform a test.

The testing range is broad. It can accommodate materials ranging from very soft pure aluminum to exceptionally hard aluminum alloys, with an effective measurement span equivalent to a Brinell hardness of 25–135 HB.

High sensitivity. The Vickers hardness tester has only 20 scale divisions, whereas the Barcol hardness tester covers a range of 0–100, offering significantly higher sensitivity.

No support is required, making it suitable for testing extra-large, extra-thick workpieces and assemblies.
