Operating Procedures and Precautions

1. Select the specimen type and notch configuration in accordance with the test method requirements, and choose the corresponding cutting tool. This machine is supplied with six types of cutting tools; users may select and order the appropriate ones based on their specific needs at the time of purchase. The standards associated with these six tools are as follows:

Type A: Suitable for Type A specimens according to ISO 179, ISO 180, and GB/T 1843.

Type B: Suitable for Type B specimens according to ISO 179, ISO 180, and GB/T 1843.

Type C1: Suitable for Type C specimens as specified in ISO 179.

Type C2 and Type C3: Suitable for Type C specimens as specified in GB/T 1043.

For profile sections only: Suitable for simply supported beam impact specimens as specified in GB/T 8814.

2. Mount the selected cutting tool in the tool holder’s tool slot, adjust its position, secure the tool pressure block, and tighten the tool using an Allen wrench.

3. Depending on the specimen type, adjust the position of the stop block, secure it with the lock nut, and press the specimen against both the stop block and the locating plate. Rotate the lock nut to drive the pressure block, thereby clamping the specimen strip. Then, turn the micrometer head’s adjusting nut and observe whether the feed and retraction are smooth; continue adjusting until the micrometer screw moves freely in both directions.

4. Tool setting: Rotate the micrometer head knob to bring the specimen into contact with the cutting tool, and record the current micrometer reading. While rotating the feed wheel, also turn the micrometer head’s main knob, and determine the appropriate depth of cut based on the specimen type and notch configuration.

5. After completing a batch of test specimens, remove metal chips and debris with cotton yarn or a vacuum cleaner, wipe down the machine, and remove the cutting tool, cleaning it thoroughly.

6. Precautions: Before preparing samples, ensure the tool position is properly adjusted; otherwise, the cutting edge may strike the sliding block, resulting in tool damage. (2) When adjusting the feed mechanism, turn the micrometer head knob gently, as excessive tightening of the adjustment rod could damage the micrometer head. (3) Apply consistent force when turning the handwheel, and replace or resharpen the cutting tool after processing every 200 specimens.
