Product Introduction

This standard is applicable to the evaluation of coatings—whether single-layer or multi‑layer systems—of paints, varnishes, and related products. Under the test methods specified in the standard, a compression‑indentation test is conducted; after gradual deformation, the coating’s resistance to cracking or to delamination from the metal substrate is assessed.

The coating may pass or fail. Alternatively, the indentation depth can be incrementally increased to determine the minimum depth at which cracking first appears in the coating or at which it begins to delaminate from the substrate. Reference standards: GB/T 9753, ISO 1520.
