Description

Product Introduction:

The rigid foam specimen slicer is an integral component of the water absorption testing procedure for rigid cellular plastics. The main components of the rigid foam specimen slicer include a sample‑holding slot, a sample‑thickness adjuster, and a sample‑clamping screw. The sample‑positioning adjuster serves to secure the specimen in place and to regulate the thickness of the sliced samples.

Instructions for Use

1. Adjust the specimen thickness regulator to the 25 mm mark, loosen the sample clamping screw, place a 50 × 50 mm specimen into the mounting slot, and then tighten the sample clamping screw to secure the specimen.

2. Use a slicing knife to trim away excess sample along the surface of the slicer platform. To ensure a smooth top surface, set the slice thickness adjuster to 0.3 mm and use the slicing knife to trim the sample flush with the edges.

3. Adjust the section thickness regulator to achieve the desired slice thickness (turn clockwise to advance the specimen, and counterclockwise to retract it back into the specimen holder). However, you should also account for the blade’s own thickness, which is approximately 0.15–0.2 mm. For example, when preparing 0.1‑mm sections, set the regulator to extend about 0.3 mm beyond the target thickness before using the microtome to cut the sections.
