SYA-14 Building Insulation Material Combustibility Performance Testing Apparatus (New Standard)

This test is applicable to the determination of the flammability of building materials, decorative and finishing materials, and related products used in industrial and civil construction. For materials and products used in other settings, this test may be referenced. Under conditions without external radiant heat, a small flame is applied directly to a vertically positioned specimen to assess the material’s flammability.

Description

Product Introduction:

This test is applicable to the determination of the combustibility of building materials, decorative and finishing materials, and related products used in industrial and civil construction.

The flammability testing of materials and products used in other settings shall be conducted by reference to the applicable procedures, under conditions without external radiation, using a small flame.

A method for determining the flammability of a specimen by direct impingement on a vertically positioned sample.
The building‑material flammability test furnace is used to determine the flammability of construction products by subjecting vertically positioned specimens to direct impingement from a small flame under standard combustion conditions. Based on the German Kleinbrenner principle, this furnace assesses the combustion performance of Class B building materials—specifically, it is employed to evaluate and classify their flame‑retardant properties according to Class B standards.

Technical Specifications:

Parameter Category Parameter content
Power supply voltage AC 220V, 50Hz
Gas requirements >95% propane gas
Timing accuracy 15s ± 0.5s; 30s ± 0.5s
Burner orifice diameter 0.17mm
Igniter timing range Adjustable from 0 to 99.99 seconds
Bunsen burner flame length 20±1mm
Duration of flame application 15 s ± 0.5 s, accuracy ± 0.2 s
Specimen dimensions 250mm×90mm
Burner tilt angle 45°
Device Functions Automatic ignition and reset functions
External dimensions Length × Width × Height (1200 × 600 × 800) mm
Ambient operating temperature 15℃~25℃

Specimen requirements:

1. The specimen dimensions are 250 × 90 ± 1 mm; for specimens with a thickness less than 60 mm, the actual dimensions shall be used, and material exceeding 60 mm in thickness shall be trimmed to 60 mm on the unexposed face. Each test group consists of six specimens.

2. Prior to testing, the test specimens shall be conditioned at a temperature of 23°C ± 2°C and a relative humidity of 50% ± 6% for at least 14 hours, or alternatively adjusted to a conditioning schedule with 48-hour intervals; the rate of mass change between two consecutive weighings shall not exceed 0.1%.

Test procedure:

1. First, after removing the instrument and its spare parts, place the instrument steadily on the workbench.

2. Connect the air duct, link the control box to the combustion chamber, and turn on the power supply.

3. Open the combustion chamber door and, in accordance with the national standard GB/T 8026 “Test Method for Combustibility of Building Materials,” adjust the distance between the specimen and the Bunsen burner.

4. Turn on the gas supply, adjust the cylinder outlet pressure to approximately 0.5 MPa, set the control box pressure to about 0.2 MPa, regulate the gas flow rate, and ignite the Bunsen burner so that the flame height is 20 ± 1 mm. Then close the combustion chamber door.

5. Turn on the control box power supply and press the “Ignition” button. The burner will apply a flame to the specimen for 15 seconds (adjustable as required), at which point the timer will start automatically. After the flame application, the burner will automatically retract.

6. Press the “Timing” button to record the time from the ignition of the specimen until the flame reaches the scale mark or the flame on the specimen’s surface extinguishes. Press the “Reset” button to reset the timer, and repeat the test for six specimens.

7. After the test is completed, turn off the power supply and the gas source.

Assessment of Material Flammability:

1. The ignition time is 15 s, and the total test duration is 20 s. Starting from the moment ignition begins, the flame front shall not extend beyond the 150 mm mark. The result is classified as Grade E.

2. The ignition time is 30 seconds, and the total test duration is 60 seconds. Starting from the moment ignition begins, the flame front shall not extend beyond the 150 mm mark. The result is classified as Grade B.
