Description
Product Introduction:
A flame photometer is an analytical instrument based on the principle of emission spectroscopy. It utilizes the thermal energy provided by the flame itself to excite certain atoms in alkaline earth metals, causing these atoms to absorb energy and transition to a higher energy level. When they return to their ground state, they release energy in the form of light, which exhibits characteristic spectral lines within a specific wavelength range. For example, when table salt is introduced into a flame, the flame turns yellow because the emission spectrum of the energy released as sodium atoms relax back to their ground state is in the yellow region. This phenomenon is commonly referred to as a flame test. Different alkali metals and alkaline earth metals produce distinct colors in a flame; by using appropriate filters, qualitative analysis can be performed. Moreover, the intensity of the flame color is directly proportional to the concentration of the corresponding atoms in the solution, providing the basis for quantitative analysis. This method is generally known as flame photometry, and instruments employing it are called flame photometers. Flame photometers are characterized by high sensitivity, strong selectivity, minimal sample requirements, and rapid analysis, and they have been widely applied in clinical diagnostics, soil analysis, fertilizer testing, glass manufacturing, ceramics, cement production, and refractory materials, among other fields.
