The UV‑curing mounting machine (UV cold‑mounting unit) is a specialized instrument for metallographic sample preparation. It employs the principle of UV‑induced photopolymerization and, when used with a single‑component UV‑curable resin, enables the cold mounting of metallographic specimens. Primarily designed for heat‑sensitive, miniature, and irregularly shaped samples, it replaces traditional hot‑press mounting and two‑component cold‑mounting processes, and is widely utilized in materials‑testing laboratories.

The equipment employs a 365 nm wavelength LED UV light source to irradiate the liquid UV resin, triggering a rapid photochemical curing process that forms the specimen without the need for heating or pressurization. It also eliminates the requirement to mix the resin’s A and B components, thereby avoiding the issues associated with conventional hot mounting—such as high‑temperature damage to samples—as well as the time‑consuming curing of standard cold mounting and the potential for errors in mixing ratios. This method is particularly well suited for preparing mounted specimens of electronic components, coated surfaces, soft materials, and thermally sensitive samples.
