This instrument is suitable for wear‑resistance testing of materials such as leather, fabrics, coatings, paper, floor tiles, plywood, glass, and natural rubber. The procedure involves cutting test specimens with a standard cutter, subjecting them to abrasion using a specified‑type grinding wheel under a prescribed load, and continuing the test until a set number of revolutions is reached. The specimen is then removed, and its post‑abrasion condition is examined, or the difference between its initial weight and its weight after testing is measured. The wear index is calculated according to the following formula: (weight loss due to abrasion ÷ number of test revolutions) × 1000.

The test procedure involves cutting specimens with a standard cutter, using an abrasive wheel of specified grade under a prescribed load, and subjecting the specimen to abrasion until a predetermined number of revolutions is reached. The specimen is then removed, and its condition after abrasion is examined, or the difference between its initial weight and its weight after testing is measured. The wear index is calculated according to the following formula: (weight loss due to abrasion ÷ number of test revolutions) × 1000.
