TSY-11 Geosynthetic Clogging Tester (Gradient Ratio Determiner)

This equipment is suitable for testing geosynthetic filter layers and has been developed and manufactured in accordance with standards such as JTG 3460‑2026 “Test Procedures for Geosynthetics in Highway Engineering,” SL 235, DL/T 5886, and others. It measures the hydraulic conductivity and permeability ratio of soil–geotextile systems and their interfaces under specified flow conditions, as well as determines the silt content of geotextiles, thereby assessing whether a geosynthetic used as a filter layer for a particular soil will cause unacceptable clogging.

Description

TSY-11 Geosynthetic Clogging Tester (Gradient Ratio Determiner)

LBT-1145 Geosynthetic Clogging Tester (New Standard Gradient Ratio Measuring Instrument)

Product Introduction:

This equipment is suitable for testing geosynthetic filter layers and has been developed and manufactured in accordance with standards such as JTG 3460‑2026 “Test Procedures for Geosynthetics in Highway Engineering,” SL 235, DL/T 5886, and others. It measures the hydraulic conductivity and permeability ratio of soil–geotextile systems and their interfaces under specified flow conditions, as well as the silt content of geotextiles, thereby determining whether a geosynthetic used as a filter layer for a particular soil will cause unacceptable clogging. The permeability fixture features alloy components on both sides and an organic material in the center, providing excellent sealing performance and enabling quick and convenient sample installation and removal.

Test Procedure

1. Place the fabric specimen and the mesh screen together in the clamping device, and seal it securely.

2. Load the soil sample, ensuring a height of 100 mm. For loose soils, use a funnel to pour the air-dried soil into the permeameter and level it; for compacted soils, compact the sample in layers to achieve the specified density. During sampling, take care to prevent blockage of the pressure‑tube inlet.

3. Saturated soil sample: Water is introduced through the drainage tube, allowing it to flow slowly into the specimen from the bottom. The hydraulic head can be maintained at less than 25 mm until the water level rises to a specified height above the top of the soil sample. At that point, water may be added via the inlet pipe, and the entire container should be filled with water. To accelerate saturation, a vacuum pump or CO₂‑injection method may be employed.

4. Adjust the water level so that the hydraulic gradient i equals 1.0, and observe the changes in the water levels within the piezometers.

5. Once all piezometer readings have stabilized, maintain a constant head in the upstream inflow tank, open the outlet valve, and allow water to flow through the specimen under seepage conditions.

6. Measure and record the piezometer water level and seepage rate once per hour, while also noting the seepage duration and water temperature; continue measurements for 24 consecutive hours. If the readings have not yet reached full stability, extend the measurement period as needed until stability is achieved.

7. After completing the test at i = 1.0, adjust the hydraulic gradient i and conduct tests on the same specimen at i = 2.5, i = 4.0, and i = 10.0. Following each increase in i, allow the piezometer readings to stabilize, and maintain seepage under that gradient for at least 1.5 hours. Once i reaches 10.0 and the piezometer readings have stabilized, repeat steps 4.5–4.6.

8. Upon completion of the test, remove the geotextile specimen, brush off any surface soil, and after drying, weigh the geotextile together with the soil contained within, to an accuracy of 0.01 g.
