RP-MR11 Vehicle-Mounted Pavement Marking Retroreflection Measurement System

Road markings are the “language” of highways, serving as a direct interface with road users and an essential facility for conveying standardized information and facilitating traffic flow. They play a critical role in enhancing highway capacity and improving driving conditions, and are widely employed throughout China’s road transportation sector. Among the various technical parameters of road markings, the retroreflective luminance coefficient (RL) is the most important indicator, directly reflecting the visibility performance of the markings. The vehicle-mounted retroreflectivity measurement system consists primarily of a host unit (including an optical measurement system and BeiDou/GPS positioning antennas), a computer processing system, and a human–machine interface (HMI). It enables the assessment of the retroreflective luminance coefficient of all pavement markings under normal driving conditions without closing the roadway, offering advantages such as high testing efficiency, comprehensive sample coverage, and a safe testing environment. Additionally, it provides panoramic imagery of the road marking condition, and its data can be used to generate maintenance maps for road markings. This system addresses the limitations of traditional retroreflectivity testers—namely, labor‑intensive operation, low efficiency, insufficient sample coverage, and unsafe testing environments—making it an indispensable tool for construction firms, inspection agencies, and maintenance organizations to ensure marking quality. Operating principle: The geometric configuration of the vehicle‑mounted retroreflectivity measurement system simulates the scenario in which a vehicle’s headlights illuminate pavement markings made of retroreflective material located 30 meters ahead on the roadway at night. Working principle

The geometric configuration of the vehicle-mounted pavement marking retroreflectivity measurement system simulates the scenario in which a vehicle travels on a highway at night: the headlamps illuminate a pavement marking made of retroreflective material located 30 meters ahead, and the driver inside the cab observes the luminance of the reflected light.
