Product Introduction:

This instrument is used to determine the impact value of coarse aggregates for pavement, such as crushed stone and gravel, in order to assess their ability to resist sudden impacts or impacts.

Structure:

The ballast impact toughness testing machine consists primarily of the following components: a release button, an adjustment button, a handle, a hook, an impact hammer, a vertical column, an impact cup, and a base.

Test method:

1. Sample preparation: Sieve 1 kg of aggregate to retain particles passing through a 15 mm sieve but retained on a 10 mm sieve; air-dry or oven-dry the sample at a temperature not exceeding 100°C for no more than 4 hours.

2. Filling the specimen: Use a scoop to transfer one-third of the aggregate into the cylinder, ensuring the material is loaded no more than 50 mm below the cylinder’s top. Compact the aggregate 25 times using the rounded end of the tamping rod, allowing each tamp to fall freely from a height not exceeding 50 mm above the cylinder’s top, with the point of impact evenly distributed across the aggregate surface. Repeat this procedure three times, remove any excess aggregate, and add additional aggregate to fill any remaining voids.

3. Weighing: Pour the aggregate completely filled in the graduated cylinder onto the balance to determine its mass (mass m, recorded to 0.1 g); use the same mass for the second test.

4. Pouring the material: Transfer the aggregate from the graduated cylinder into the metal cup mounted on the machine base, and compact it by striking it 25 times with the tamping rod to ensure proper compaction.

5. Hammering: Allow the hammer to fall freely from a height of 380 ± 5 mm onto the aggregate, and perform 15 consecutive blows. The interval between each blow shall be no less than 1 second. *After hammering, the specified drop height shall not be adjusted further.

6. Sieving and Weighing: Transfer the crushed aggregate from the cup onto a clean tray, then tap the outside of the metal cup with a rubber hammer and brush the inner surface with a stiff-bristled brush until all fine particles have fallen onto the tray. Pour the crushed aggregate onto a 2.5 mm sieve and sieve it until no further significant increase in weight is observed within one minute. Weigh the material passing through the 2.5 mm sieve and the material retained on the 2.5 mm sieve on an analytical balance to the nearest 0.1 g, denoting these weights as m1 (under‑sieve) and m2 (on‑sieve), respectively. If m1 + m2 exceeds m + 1 g, the results shall be deemed invalid.

7. Re‑testing: Use another sample of the same quality as in the first test and repeat the entire procedure.
