Brass ring for assessing the contamination of structural adhesives used in building sealants

This method is used to determine the polluting potential of architectural sealants and is suitable for assessing the extent of component leaching and diffusion in single-component solvent-based sealants. Other types of sealants may also be evaluated by analogy. The sealant under test is placed into a metal ring of specified dimensions, which is then positioned on a stack of filter paper. After a prescribed period, the extent of contaminant migration on the filter paper and the number of contaminated filter papers are measured; the sum of these two values—referred to as the migration index—constitutes the test result.
