Description
Product Introduction:
Purpose and Principle: This instrument is suitable for determining the resilient deflection of pavement under static loading or very slow‑rate loading, and it can effectively reflect the overall strength of the pavement.
The pavement deflection value refers to the vertical deformation of the pavement surface under wheel load; it is an indicator of pavement strength. The thicker the pavement structure and the higher the strength of the pavement materials or subgrade, the smaller the deflection value; conversely, the larger the deflection value. Therefore, in pavement design, construction, maintenance, and reinforcement, it is essential to develop a cost-effective and technically sound plan. Measuring pavement deflection is an indispensable method that has been widely adopted by highway authorities in recent years.
The pavement deflection meter is designed based on the principle of leverage and is used to measure the pavement deflection between the dual tires of a vehicle’s rear axle.
Under load, the pavement undergoes localized settlement—i.e., vertical deformation—and the resulting surface response takes on a bowl‑shaped profile centered on the load application point, known as the deflection bowl. Once the load is removed, elastic recovery restores the pavement to its original condition, and the deflection disappears; the difference between the pre‑load and post‑load states is referred to as the deflection value. Experimental evidence shows that the total deflection and the resilient deflection are not identical: even after the load is removed, the deflection bowl does not fully vanish, leaving behind a small residual deformation. Furthermore, the pavement deflection value is closely influenced by factors such as vehicle speed and ambient temperature.
Technical Specifications:
| Total length | 3600 mm 5400 mm 7200 mm |
| Leverage ratio | 2:1 |
| Length from the fulcrum to the front measurement point | 2400 mm 3600 mm 4800 mm |
| Stiffness | With the center of the shaft hole as the fulcrum, a 200‑g load applied at a distance of 1,200 mm from the fulcrum results in a deflection not exceeding 0.05 mm. |
