Application: Fresh mortar with a specified flow range is subjected to water absorption testing according to the prescribed method. The water retention rate of the mortar is defined as the mass of water retained in the mortar after the absorption treatment, expressed as a percentage of the original water content. Filter paper is a type of paper with excellent filtration properties; its porous structure allows it to absorb liquids and is composed of cotton fibers. Depending on the intended use, filter screens for measuring mortar water retention are manufactured using different methods. Stainless steel filters with a pore size of 45 µm are also available.
Instruments required for the mortar water retention tester:
1 Rigid test mold, circular, with an inner diameter of 100 mm ± 1 mm and an effective internal depth of 25 mm ± 1 mm;
2 Rigid base plate, circular, without holes, with a diameter of 100 mm ± 5 mm and a thickness of 5 mm ± 1 mm;
3. Dry filter paper, slow‑grade quantitative filter paper, with a diameter of 110 mm ± 1 mm;
4 Metal filter mesh, mesh size 45 μm;
5 Metal scraper;
6 Electronic balance, with a capacity of 2 kg and a readability of 0.1 g;
7 Iron weight, with a mass of 2 kg
