Product Introduction:
It is applicable to determining the damaged area and damaged length of textile fabrics when they are burned at a 45° angle, or to measuring the number of times the fabric is exposed to flame until it melts and reaches a specified length.

Instrument operation
1. Prepare the sample.
2. Turn on the instrument’s power switch to access the home screen.
3. Select the experimental method and ignition timing.
4. Method A test: Select the igniter according to the fabric’s thickness.
4.1 When testing thin fabrics, a ¢6.4‑mm‑diameter igniter (No. 17) shall be used and securely screwed onto the igniter holder with the designated wrench. For testing thick textiles, a ¢20‑mm‑diameter igniter (Merkel burner) shall be employed; when using this igniter, the specimen must be elevated by 10 mm so that the distance between the igniter opening and the specimen surface is 65 ± 2 mm.
4.2 Enter the test interface and set the ignition timing.
4.3 Press the ignition button, observe the igniter needle 14 and the igniter 17, and release the button once ignition is successful.
5. Allow the igniter to preheat for 2 minutes, then insert the flame‑height scale and position its tip directly above the igniter. Rotate the flame‑adjustment valve 6 to adjust the flame until its height matches that of the scale’s tip. At this setting, the flame height should be 45 ± 2 mm; if using a Merkel burner, raise the scale by 15 mm to achieve a flame height of 65 ± 2 mm.
6. Remove the flame‑height scale 16, close the front door, and take the prepared specimen from its sealed container, mounting it on the Type A specimen holder. Open the right‑hand door 12, insert the Type A specimen holder into the space behind the right door (supporting the lower clamping plate), and slide it along the guide rail of the holder’s support until it is fully seated. When the microswitch is triggered, ignition occurs and timing begins automatically; after the prescribed ignition time, the flame extinguishes, and the after‑flame duration is measured automatically.
7. Observe the fabric’s combustion behavior: if afterflaming ceases, immediately press the afterflaming button; the smoldering timer will then start automatically and continue until the fabric has completely extinguished. At that point, promptly press the smoldering button.
8. Open the front door of the test chamber, remove the A‑method specimen holder, take out the specimen, use a planimeter to measure the damaged area, measure the damage length, and record the test results.
9. Remove the smoke and debris from the test chamber, then proceed to test the next specimen.
10. Method B Test: When required by the product standard, install the ¢6.4‑diameter igniter.
11. Press the ignition button and release it once ignition is successful.
12. Using the method described in item 7 above, adjust the flame to a height of 45 ± 2 mm.
13. Remove the prepared specimen from the sealed container and promptly roll it into a cylindrical shape, then insert it into the helical coil of the screw-type specimen holder No. 20.
14. Insert the screw‑type specimen holder from the front door side and place it on the guide rail of the specimen holder bracket. Then thread the metal wire through the spool of the screw‑type specimen holder, and close the front door.
15. Rotate the adjustment handwheel; the threaded specimen holder will slide downward along the guide rail of the holder bracket, bringing the lower end of the specimen in the helical coil into contact with the flame to ignite it. When the specimen ceases to burn or melt, rotate the adjustment handwheel again to bring the lowest portion of the unburned residual specimen into contact with the flame. Repeat this procedure until the molten material has burned up to the 90 mm mark. Throughout the process, keep the adjustment handwheel steady to prevent the specimen holder from slipping naturally.
16. Record the number of times the specimen is exposed to the flame until the molten combustion reaches the 90 mm mark (excluding the final exposure).
17. Open the front door of the test chamber, remove the screw‑type specimen holder, eliminate any residual material, purge the chamber of combustion gases, and then proceed to test the next specimen.
